Pastor Robert Atherton

Rob grew up attending a Salvation Army Church on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. After marrying Michelle, they both went to bible college and trained to be Salvation Army Officers (Ministers), being ordained in January 1994 and appointed to a new Church plant in Brisbane’s south. The following year both Rob and Michelle commenced their Bachelor of Ministries degrees through The Australian College of Theology, which Rob completed in 1999.

Ministry roles, whilst with The Salvation Army, included teaching/training at the Salvo’s Bible College, public relations, leading a church in Moscow, Russia and leadership of Dulwich Hill Salvation Army in Sydney’s inner west.

In 2005, Rob and Michelle decided to settle in Michelle’s home town of Lismore on the New South Wales North Coast, where they remain today.

After working in roles in electronics (his original training) and employment services, Rob took up a new ministry position as Chaplaincy Coordinator for Uniting (the Uniting Church’s Social ministry) across the New South Wales North and Mid North Coasts in 2012, a role he continues to hold. Around the same time, he also took on the leadership of New Heights Christian Fellowship and continues to serve in this position.

As well as a Bachelor of Ministries degree, Rob has a Graduate Diploma in Ministry and a Graduate Certificate in Social Change and Development. Rob is a qualified trainer with a current Cert IV in Training and Assessment.

Rob’s passion is seeing lives transformed by the amazing grace of Jesus, and seeing people grow in their faith. Rob also enjoys teaching people how to serve God through using their talents and gifts.
